Blackburn are set to host Chelsea at Ewood Park, in match week eleven of the Premier League, on Saturday, November 5, 2011.
Blackburn are fresh from a 3-3 draw at Norwich in match week 10. The visitors drew first blood on the break though Hoilett after an eventful first half that saw missed opportunities on both sides. Rovers took the initiative early on, and had a few scoring opportunities wasted by the likes of Formica and Yakubu.
The Canaries had their own missed chance when Morison hit the ball over the post after Tierney and Pilkington got the home side got through on the left flank. However, Morison made amends by scoring the equaliser on 53 minutes, only for Yakubu to put the visitors ahead on 62 minutes and when Samba got Blackburn’s third goal two minutes later, the game appeared all but over. The Canaries had a foot in the door, with a Johnson goal on 82 minutes, and Holt converted a penalty late into injury time to level the score 3-3.
In match week 10, Chelsea crossed swords with Arsenal, at Stamford Bridge. Lampard, fed by a brilliant cross from Mata, gave the home side an early lead, on 14 minutes. Van Persie got his side back on level terms, with an equaliser in the 37th minute, when Ramsey found Gervinho on the run, and the Ivory Coast striker drew out Cech and squared Van Persie who just had to tap the ball into the unguarded net. But the hosts had the last laugh on the stroke of half-time, when captain Terry put them ahead 2-1.
The second half was sheer mayhem, as Arsenal mounted a fierce fight-back led by Van Persie who got a hat-trick, and Chelsea went down 5-3, with Mata scoring their third goal in the 81st minute, a case of too little, too late
Head to head, Chelsea have established a 13-2 lead over the Rovers, in the 20 league matches between the sides. The last time they met was in January 2011, with Chelsea winning 2-0, in the game hosted by them.
After 10 games, this season, Blackburn are currently in relegation zone (18th place) on the Premier League points table, while Chelsea are in fourth place. In 5 home games, Blackburn have won just one while losing 4; Chelsea have won 2 of 5 games, on the road, while losing 2 and drawing the remaining one. In their last 10 league matches, Blackburn have won just one, while losing 6 and drawing 3; Chelsea have won 6, lost 3 and drawn one of their last 10.
Chelsea are bookmakers favourites to win, and will be keen to make amends after a dull draw against Belgian side Genk, midweek, in the Champions League.
